Special Service Guide Update for April 24, 2018

The European Union (EU) will soon mandate changes that strengthen and standardize data protection and privacy of all EU individuals as part of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2016/679. The GDPR specifically addresses the obligations organizations have related to the processing of EU residents’ personal data, regardless of where those organizations are located. As part of Fastly’s commitment to privacy, we’ve made changes to key service guides in advance of the May 25, 2018 effective date.

Specifically, we’ve renamed our About our terms guide to Compliance and Law FAQ to better reflect its content. In it, we’ve clarified details about why Fastly has a privacy policy and the information included in our data processing terms.

We’ve also added warnings in some of our VCL documentation reminding customers that VCL, like any other code source, is an impractical place to store personal information given various privacy requirements, especially under the GDPR. Likewise, we’ve added a reminder in our Real-Time Log Streaming features that customers should take into account security, privacy, and compliance considerations when logging data.

Finally, we’ve updated Fastly’s Privacy Policy, posted a Cookie Policy, and made our Data Processing Terms available online.
